Introducing Rose Moran

Rose Moran, Events

Thursday 12th of March 2026

Hello!
I'm Rose and I am your events officer!
SSAGO has been a massive part of my life for the past few (way too many) years and I am always looking forward to being able to give back to this great community that SSAGO has created. I have been part of Girlguiding since Rainbows and then also joined Scouting when I became an Explorer.
My main goals every year are just to:
- provide the national event committee the oversight and guidance that they need.
- to set up each event with a clear timeline of what is needed to run an event (and by when) to help minimise committee burnout and last minute stresses.
- update the current event resources to help future events.

Introducing Lara Hagger

Lara Hagger, Treasurer

Thursday 12th of March 2026

Hi SSAGO! I'm Lara, your Treasurer for 2025-2026!

I started Brownies when I was 7 and haven't left Girlguiding - I'm currently a leader at Brownies and Rangers, as well as a Peer Educator and general floating adult who can help at meetings when needed. I joined SAGGY in my first year and have had the best time, especially going to various rallies and balls and organising freshers' weekends. I’ve made fantastic friends through SSAGO and learnt so much from them all, and I hope that I can pass this on to future SSAGOers as your National Treasurer!

Come and say hi if you see me at a national event (and tell me and Money Bunny your favourite coin!).

Ben Dickinson, Liaisons

Sunday 22nd of February 2026

Report

  • Handover: With my term coming to an end at this year's ball, I am well into my handover with Charlie. We are continuing to work together on all the tasks for the role, and Charlie will be able to take over smoothly!
  • The other handover: With Alex's term coming to an end, we have also had a handover ready for me to start as Charities Assistant at ball. I will be continuing my work on the MoUs, affiliation agreements and general team pink stuff in that role too!
  • Safeguarding: We have met with Scouts' safeguarding development team to have an introduction as well as discuss our safeguarding policies and practices. They were generally impressed by our safeguarding measures but provided a few bits of feedback which are being implemented as we speak!
  • Policy Updates: I have been working on a number of policy updates with the rest of Team Pink, both related to my role (safeguarding updates, including volunteering events in the nights away policy etc.) and unrelated (branding and publicity, Data Protection etc.). These are still being worked on and going to reps as and when they are ready!
  • Volunteering Events: We have been working with SNoGS to support their first volunteering event. This has ranged from providing a bank account for them to use for the event to getting their volunteers on the UKST. If your club are thinking about running a volunteering event, get in touch and we'll do everything we can to help!

Aims

  • Memorandums of Understanding: We are in discussions with Scouts and Girlguiding about updating our agreements with them to make them suitable for all orgnaisations as they currently are! We hope to have these sorted in the next few months
  • Club Affiliation Agreements: We are starting the process of signing agreements with each SU with a SSAGO club to ensure that everyone has the same expectations and understanding of the relationship. This will be a long process and likely take a few years, if your club would like to be one of the first to test this out, please let us know!
  • SSAGO Volunteers: We are trying to streamline the process for SSAGO volunteers to join the SSAGO UK Support Team (recently renamed from SASU). We have started this by making digital forms and are looking at ways to make it easier for SSAGO run volunteering events to get their volunteers added.
Update

February 2026 update

Lara Hagger, Treasurer

Thursday 19th of February 2026

Report

  • Development Fund: approved dev fund bids for various clubs and made sure they were tracked on the spreadsheet so all of Team Pink can be kept up to date with the process.
  • Events: answered questions and offered advice to various events happening across SSAGO, supported Midlands Freshers Camp with finances, and am looking forward to spending a weekend in Portsmouth!
  • General organising: as part of sorting things for doing the annual accounts, I have been going through the google drive and making sure that everything money-related is clearly named and filed in a sensible location to make searching for invoices/receipts much easier.
  • Money Bunny: our beloved Treasurer’s mascot has recently gone through surgery so that her ears and tail could be reattached, and to provide an internal pouch in which her coins can safely sit.

Aims

  • Annual Accounts: my goal is to have the accounts from April 2024 to November 2025 done and reviewed by Port-A-Rally (there is a huge number of transactions to sort through, plus the spreadsheet doesn’t like 2024-2 being a financial year, so I won’t promise anything - I am working with Alex to get it done ASAP though!).
  • Documents of Advice: whether I am re-elected as SSAGO Treasurer or not, I want to provide a document that can be sent to national event treasurers with the advice, ideas, and general reassurance I have gathered over this past year.
Update

February 2026 update

Jack Woodward, Chair

Sunday 15th of February 2026

Report

  • It feels like time has flown by since Space Rally, but even with an Explorer belt and some extra travel, I've still been able to do plenty of stuff for SSAGO!
  • AGM: For the first time since I joined Pink, I am not actually conflicted in the AGM, so I’ve been working with the ROs to get everything set up, and all the information sent out! I'll also be hosting the hustings/AGM at rally
  • Transport: I’ve been working closely with Joe as a member of the transport project committee as we get the project set up to run effectively in the future. In particular, we've started to be able to offer MiDAS training, and we've finally streamlined the process for clubs ordering or borrowing Section 19 permits.
  • Handover: After 2 years in role, and with the end in sight, I’ve been starting to think seriously about the chair handover - existing documentation is comparatively thin on the ground compared to Secretary, but there's a lot of knowledge to pass on!

Aims

  • Finishing up: As we move towards the end of the year, I'll be working to close off existing projects, or at least leave them prepared for the new team. That includes some policy items ahead of reps (and running past reps), work towards the SSAGO Strategy, and the plan for completing it, and work on our relationships with Scouting and Guiding. We're still waiting to hear back from the charity commission on our latest application (as I write this, at least), so it's looking like handing over completion of that will be on the cards too.
  • Handover: Once the new exec have been elected, this will be my main focus. I'll be leading on the chair handover, of course, but also on the overall Team Pink handover, and making sure other 1-1s happen! It can be very easy for outgoing exec to hang around, with things not really fully finished, even after ball, but I'm aiming to get everything wrapped up and make a clean break, so I'm not getting in the way of the new committee!

Manifesto for Chair

Ewan Bell, Chair

Sunday 15th of February 2026

Hi SSAGO,

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ewan. I’m currently your Members Officer, and before that I was Vice President and President of Lancaster, Logistics Officer and Secretary for two rallies, and Chair of Policy Fixers. I’m running to be your next National Chair.

Over the last few years I’ve been involved in SSAGO at pretty much every level: club, regional, national events, projects, and now Pink. That breadth of experience has given me a clear understanding of how SSAGO works in practice, where the pressure points are, and where strong leadership makes the biggest difference.

Being Members Officer this year has meant working closely with clubs across the country. I’ve handled queries, supported committees through various challenges, worked on policy development, and been involved in governance discussions that shape how SSAGO operates. Sitting on Pink gives you a full view of the organisation. You see how decisions are made, how projects move forward, and how important clarity and structure are to keeping everything running smoothly.

Before Pink, I spent two years on club committee at Lancaster, as Vice President and then President. Leading a club gives you a grounded understanding of what national decisions actually mean to clubs, and how important clarity and simplicity are from Pink, when you already have to deal with so much confusion from SUs.

My time on national event committees, as Logistics Officer and Secretary, reinforced that. Large events are complicated beasts, with risk management, finances, volunteer coordination, and long term planning. They also rely heavily on clear communication between committees and Pink. I’ve seen firsthand how valuable steady leadership from Chair can be, when committees need direction or reassurance.

As Chair of Policy Fixers, I have also worked extensively with SSAGO’s governance documents, which will be crucial over the next year as we hopefully become a charity, and transition our structures to that.

I’m running for Chair because I believe experience matters. The Chair’s role isn't just about enthusiasm for SSAGO. It's about leading effective meetings, keeping discussions focused, ensuring accountability, and maintaining continuity. It is about understanding how all the moving parts of SSAGO fit together, making sure they work cohesively, and taking on tasks that free others on Pink and Event committees to do their roles as well as they can.

As Chair, I will work closely with the Charities Assistant to maximise our chances of achieving charitable status, and with the Events Officer to help deliver successful events. Over the next year, bookings will open for Reunion and Witan, two of the major events in the SSAGO calendar. These, along with Rallies and Ball, will receive my full support to ensure they run smoothly and successfully.

SSAGO works best when Pink is collaborative, structured, and forward looking. Having already spent a year on Pink, I know what the workload looks like and what the expectations are. More importantly, I know that I can meet them.

SSAGO has given me a huge amount over the years. I want to continue contributing to it at the highest level, and I believe I have the experience and understanding to lead it well as Chair.

Manifesto

Manifesto for Publicity Officer

Ellie Lees, Publicity

Sunday 15th of February 2026

Hi, SSAGOers, my name’s Ellie, I’m 20 and currently studying History, Heritage and Archaeology at Bangor University, meaning I’m a member of BUGS, not to be confused with our long-time rivals Bath BUGS!

I’ve been involved in Girlguiding since I was 4 and Scouts since I was 10, which means I understand both organisations well. That dual perspective gives me insight into how SSAGO can better promote itself across both movements.
SSAGO has given me confidence, friendships, and opportunities I never expected. I would love to be given the opportunity to give back and help future SSAGO members get the same opportunities that I did.

Why me?

Going into my third year, I know people would be concerned that I would be short on time, however I actually have a lot more free time coming up, with my 5-year Girlguiding North-West youth voice chair role coming to an end this academic year, and well-polished time management skills, I’m confident I won’t have an issue managing this role.

I’m also currently Inspire Cymru lead, meaning I look after Inspire (Girlguiding’s equivalent of Network) for Wales. This has taught me so much about meetings, mediation, and about Girlguiding’s workings as a whole, something I feel I can bring into SSAGO, especially when I feel Team Pink tends to be quite Scout-heavy.

I’ve also been on BUGS committee as Treasurer this year and Publicity Officer last year, which has meant I’ve got to know how SSAGO functions and how things like REPS work, allowing me to be well-equipped if elected.

Why Publicity?

I have a strong interest in design and studied Graphics through GCSE and A-Level. Creativity is something I genuinely love and enjoy; I don’t see it as work. I’m currently on the Rali Eryri committee as Merch and Publicity. Through this, I’ve developed practical experience in producing engaging content and have shown first-hand experience of being responsible for the publicity of an element of SSAGO.

I’m also chronically online, whether you see this as a good or a bad thing, it’s evident that I know my way around social media and can seamlessly pick up from the incredible work Lucy has done.

My ideas for the role.

  • Explorer / Ranger Challenge Badge to raise awareness about SSAGO

I only discovered SSAGO by accident when a certain Alice Baldwin introduced me to it at a Roverway briefing weekend, yet it ultimately influenced my final UCAS choices as I chose universities based on whether they had an established SSAGO club. That experience made me realise how vital advertising and getting ourselves known to Rangers and Explorers is.

A badge pack linked to the programme for both sections that explores what SSAGO can offer as well as potentially advising about university and the first few years out of school/college is something I’m keen to look into, not only would it raise awareness, and potentially funds for SSAGO with the cost of the badge it would also provide a much needed source of advice and reassurance that’s there’s something after for young people. (Below are two pictures of me as a Ranger and Explorer months before ageing out to remind everyone just how little and naïve we all were once!)

  • Club Templates

I understand that not all clubs have someone confident in design or publicity. As Publicity Officer, I would aim to provide accessible templates, branding guidance, and promotional support so clubs and National Events can produce consistent, high-quality materials without feeling overwhelmed. These would be placed in a folder acting as a bank of resources, able to be easily accessed, so clubs can be present on social media and increase their publicity and recruitment opportunities.

  • SSAGO Interest Badges

Who doesn’t love a badge? I’d love to create a series of badges similar to those of Girlguiding’s interest badges that members can earn in club meetings or at home, especially those of Indie members, something that would take the strain off club committees if they were struggling for a night’s plan, and allow for members to have another way of getting involved within SSAGO.

  • Student-run units / Student volunteer Highlights

Whilst I’m at university, I volunteer for both an explorer unit and then within Girlguiding, I’m the unit leader for one of only a few completely student-run units. All 4 sections run completely by students at once in the same hall; this presents a challenge that I’m aware is something that faces other members of SSAGO, so I would like to raise awareness of this and show what is possible. By highlighting the work of student volunteers at a national level, it would allow people to connect and bounce off ideas about how they manage things like this, especially with constant change and the unfortunate stigma that sometimes comes from being a leader that’s also a student!

    .

I bring long-standing involvement in both movements, alongside publicity experience, creativity, and a genuine belief in SSAGO’s impact. I would be proud to serve as Publicity Officer and help ensure SSAGO is visible, celebrated, and accessible to everyone who could benefit from it.

Manifesto

Manifesto for Treasurer

Lara Hagger, Treasurer

Sunday 15th of February 2026

Hi everyone! For those of you who might not know me, I’m Lara and I have been the SSAGO Treasurer for the past year. Before that, I was SAGGY’s Treasurer as well as Treasurer for a national event (I have so many items of clothing which say Treasurer Lara on them), plus I’ve also been involved in SSAGO projects. All of this experience has given me some amazing friends, the ability to use my spreadsheet powers for good, and the knowledge about club, regional, national, and event finances.

Why vote for me?

I’ve enjoyed my year on Team Pink and think that another year as Treasurer would allow me to complete some bigger projects. Continuity within the role is important, especially as we change our financial year and introduce new projects such as the Transport Project. There are a lot of moving parts within this particular role, and having arrived at a clear understanding of them all, I think there’s more I could do given another year that would provide future treasurers with a clearer basis on which to carry out the role and build their ideas.

Having been on Team Pink for a year already, I know the amount of work that goes into each role, and when certain deadlines are to be met by the treasurer. Event committees work incredibly hard to organise and run our national events, and I enjoy being a supporting hand, especially for the money side of things. Furthermore, with Witan and Reunion approaching on the horizon, I think having a Pink Treasurer who knows what they are doing and can build on a year's worth of experience is vital.

What will I do with another year?

  • I want to develop guidance sheets for event treasurers and clubs/regions using our bank accounts to provide clear expectations and advice
  • Having recently gained access to Money Bunny’s instagram account, I want to start actually posting on her socials to encourage everyone to engage with the finance (fun) side of life :)
  • Work with the archive project to record events past and present in order to build up a wealth of helpful information and advice (plus find out when SAGGY’s neckers changed colour!)

SSAGO has given me so much joy, and I’ve met some wonderful people whom I would love to continue meeting, helping, and advising as Team Pink Treasurer, and I look forward to being Money Bunny’s keeper for another year!

Manifesto

Manifesto for Secretary

Lucy Mott, Secretary

Sunday 15th of February 2026

Who Am I

My name is Lucy and I am a final year Modern Languages student at Newcastle University. I have been a member of NUSSAGG for 4 years and part of Girlguiding for 15 years, being a Guides leader for the last 3.

I have taken on a number of roles in SSAGO over the years. I have spent 3 years on NUSSAGG committee as Welfare Officer, Guide Liaison (while on my year abroad) and currently President. You may also remember me from when I was let loose with the megaphone while being activities officer for SSAGOes to Space Rally!

I’m looking for a new SSAGO adventure as I graduate, step down from NUSSAGG committee this summer and begin teacher training and think I would really enjoy being on Team Pink!! I would love the opportunity to give back to an organisation that has given so much to me!

Why me

Over the years I have gained a lot of experience through being on NUSSAGG’s committee, dealing with all sorts of admin and battles against our SU. I helped to run two Freshers camps for the club that required lots of organisation skills alongside carrying out the day-to-day work needed for the club to run efficiently. I have grown to love all things admin and enjoy nothing more than writing a good email!

I have faced lots of challenges in my time as a Guides leader and have gained a lot of resilience when things are difficult. NUSSAGG has struggled in the past to develop with Girlguiding in the area, but I have worked resiliently to form what is now a strong relationship with ourselves and the county commissioner. I am not afraid to work hard and as someone with a plethora of commitments I have learnt to manage my time as efficiently as possible. I would therefore make sure to carry out my secretary responsibilities to the best of my ability.

Whilst on SSAGOes to Space Rally committee, I gained a greater understanding and appreciation of the behind the scenes work that SSAGO requires which I think equips me well to support event committees and complete the work required by the secretary. I already therefore have some experience with the SSAGO emailing system and the ability to work well in a team.

During my Modern Languages degree, I have massively developed my communication skills as through organising and taking my year abroad I had to be able to communicate and carry out tasks in not only English but Spanish and French too. Nothing prepares you for admin related work more than applying for a visa to work abroad! I am a very organised person and couldn’t think of a better use for my skills than organising SSAGO.

Plans for the role

-Keep Team Pink as organised as possible.

-Make sure resources like minutes are as accessible as possible for all.

-Keep emails as to the point as possible so people read them!

-Be present at events as much as possible and use my experience to support those running them.

-Have fun – make Team Pink appear as enjoyable as possible to encourage others to run in the future.

Manifesto

Manifesto for Members Officer

Hannah Michael, Members

Sunday 15th of February 2026

Hi everyone! I'm Hannah, a PGCE student at Swansea University and a big Scout and Guide fan since my Rainbow days! I’m the current President of SUGS and I love leading Cubs with my friends, lending a hand with Scouts and Beavers in Swansea and London, representing the club at SSAGO reps and chipping away at the Green Project. I'm really passionate about making Scouting and Guiding enjoyable for absolutely everyone and have loved being a part of SSAGO over the last four years so I think this is the perfect way to give back as Members Officer on Team Pink!

What do I want to do as Members Officer?

This is just the tip of the iceberg but some ideas I have for the role are:

  • SSAGO Bear: a travelling teddy that is passed between committees sharing the behind-the-scenes in a diary/newsletter to help newer clubs see the who, what, when, where, why and how a club thrives.
  • Friendly Competitions: fun challenges between regions or clubs, e.g. growing the tallest sunflower for Earth Day or a photography competition for publicity.
  • Social Packs: carry on Ewan’s idea of shared activity resources to help new or struggling clubs from mini pioneering to boomwhackers (all personally tried and tested) with the time, cost and what you’ll need.
  • Committee FAQs & Checklists: I’d like to team up with the secretary and the assistants to simplify all the fiddly bits of SSAGO like updating details, the website (e.g. setting up a camp), membership fees but also on inclusivity and welfare so clubs know exactly what they need to do and when so no one is left without a clue.
  • SSAGO 101: a ready-made introduction presentation for Freshers’ events/the first social of the year explaining SSAGO, rallies, balls, Discord, mascots, Team Pink and all the other quirks that make the organisation what it is!
  • International Pen Pals: joining up the International Project lead to write postcards to international student Scout and Guide groups to create international links, building on friendships I’ve made on Witan 2024, 16th World Scout Moot and at KISC and it would be fab to have other get involved too!
  • Green: continuing leading the project but suggesting (and taking suggestions for) easy ideas like free range eggs (instead of caged) or donating leftovers to food banks after camps in factsheets.
  • Welsh Language: Carry on Lucy and Ed’s work by adding more of the language in SSAGO; even as a beginner I know that it’s really meaningful to try and have and celebrate Welsh where possible.

Why should you vote for me?

I have three years of committee experience as President and Vice President so I understand both the visible leadership and the paperwork like emailing the SU in the background that keeps a society running smoothly. By raising money for amazing charities like Cancer Research, the Bat Conservation Trust, organising a Comic Relief breakfast, beach clean and launching cool new merchandise like drawstring bags and even jibbitz – I’ve proven that once I set my mind to something, I put in the work to see it through because I genuinely enjoy it! I’ve liaised with our local GLV and High Sheriff to introduce enthusiastic freshers as new leaders, teamed up with loads of societies and created over 200 stories and posts on Facebook and Instagram so I’m confident in communicating and building those relationships – skills that are essential when acting as the first point of contact for clubs; I want to be a friendly face that people come to!

As Small Bands Manager for the Musicians’ Society, I keep records up to date, help set up new bands, oversee membership lists, and make sure I have a full picture of how each group is doing. When a band looks like it might be struggling, I reach out and offer support. In many ways, if you replace ‘bands’ with ‘clubs’, I’m already carrying out quite a few of the responsibilities of a Members Officer just in a different environment. Alongside Mental Health First Aid, safeguarding and inclusion (anti-racist and LGBTQ+) training from my course, which prepares me to respond well to welfare concerns; my experience demonstrates that I already practise a lot of the skills this role needs.

SSAGO has meant so much to me, and it’s given me friendships, confidence, opportunities, and memories I’m so grateful for. I truly want every member to have the same fantastic experience that I’ve had and I never want any committee, club, or individual to feel lost or unsupported. I have so many ideas, but more importantly, I’m someone who puts in the time and effort to make them happen. When I care about something, I follow it through and I like turning plans into action and support so that every club feels encouraged and every member feels valued. If that’s the kind of Members Officer you’d like, I would truly appreciate your vote! heart

  • Shop Project
  • Clothing
  • Stock Take
  • Radio License
  • Over the last few months I have been busy doing lots of different SSAGO things. We now have a Shop project with a few members - we have had our first meeting and are in the process of designing lots of new SSAGO badges (and some old ones).
  • We have also set up a SSAGO custom club clothing shop to make it easier for members to get green SSAGO merch at any time of the year and get it delivered to their own homes/clubs!
  • This year at the Team Pink weekend thanks to the help of Nem the shop had a really good sort out and had recount of all the stock!
  • SSAGO also now has its own radio license allowing radios to be used at rallies correctly.
  • Lastly I have been keeping the general running of the shop going and am in the processing of restocking the shop of lots of important National merch.

Aims

  • Over the next few months I am aiming to:
  • - Continue developing the shop project
  • - Develop a better system for managing where we order stock from and managing where all artwork is saved to make re ordering stock simpler.

Jack Woodward, Chair

Sunday 9th of November 2025

Report

  • Policy: We've spent the last few months rewriting a number of policies, and writing a few new policies, aiming to keep our policies in line with our practice, improve our governance, and prepare for charity registration.
  • Events: Supported and attended Nasc, supported North West Freshers and LUSSAGO Summer Camp with finances, engaged with the Shivaree organisers and other international student scouts at the World Scout Moot, represented SSAGO at Gilwell Reunion, and helped organise the upcoming SSAGO Does SOWA weekend.
  • General: Supported establishment of Transport project, supported charity application work, led MoU re-writing process, involved in recruitment of new assistants (around a conflict), and led the onboarding process for the new appointment, and dealt with a number of complaints. Also completed 36 nights away since RF2B, because I'm apparently far too busy.

Aims

  • Charity Application: We're definitely feeling close with this now, and so I'd like to get this a bit further. In particular, there's work to be done on our MoUs with both Scouting and Guiding that the Charity Commission have previously referenced that I'd like to make progress on (though there's a limit to how much we can do ourselves)!
  • AGM Engagement: My next report will be ahead of the AGM, which will by my final rally on Team Pink, and so I'd like to work on engagement with the election process, and hopefully help convince a broad range of competitive candidates to run for all roles, but particularly chair. If you're considering it, please do reach out to me and I'd love to have a chat about it!
  • Events: I'm hoping to support a successful SSAGO Does SOWA weekend, plus support the North West Revolution contingent organisation.
  • Projects: I'm also hoping to continue to support the Transport project, and to help remove some of the red on the Strategy by supporting the establishment of the Bar project.
  • Club Relationship Agreements: Finally, I'm hopeful that we'll be able to start negotiating club relationship agreements with the first SUs in the coming months (please let us know if you'd like to be first), which is really exciting!

  • Reasonable Adjustments Policy: In progress, hoping to be ready for next Reps
  • Independent Rep Election: Ran the Indie Rep election, and we've elected a new one!

Aims

  • Membership: To be on the ball and help get all the memberships submitted on time! (with minimal nagging emails)
  • New Clubs: Hopefully will get another set up this year
  • Socials Box: To get more socials in it for clubs to benefit from!
